About Ibis
So, what is Ibis Community Media?
At its base, we love our community and we want to give it a voice. More structurally, we are a cooperative organisation based in Meanjin/Brisbane that provides outlets for work created by our community, for our community and well beyond. We are looking to find places for creatives, producers and journalists to tell the stories that make our community great.
We believe in the value of working together to advance and promote those works as a collective so they can find support and audiences in a noisy and fragmented media environment.
What are we about?
Ibis Community Media exists to platform local Journalists, Musicians, Filmmakers, and Artists,. Doing so by also working in collaboration with affiliated Companies in the creative space. OurThe Goal is to build a healthy economic ecosystem for the next generation of upcoming artists. When it comes to your creative and professional work, you will be supported with training, opportunities, and financial rewards to help you meet your goals.
What we believe in:
The community comes first.
Making sure that we have the facilities, resources and skills to help people who work for us to produce things that help our communities is a big part of why we exist.Workers should control their work.
The organisation is a workers’ cooperative, meaning decisions about how the organisation is run, what capabilities it develops, and what is done with the work we produce are up to our members. We may empower individuals to help pursue those goals, but fundamentally, what is done with the work you produce and how the cooperative uses that work is up to you.Good work deserves support.
To the best of the organisation’s ability, we will pursue grants, crowdfunding, sponsorship revenue, and subscription costs to support your work materially. This may involve providing you with the correct facilities, equipment, and publishing paths. It will also mean that revenues exceeding investments in these areas will be allocated as wages, allowing you to focus on projects that matter to you and earn a living from your work.Collaborate & contribute.
Being part of a workers’ cooperative will give you access to connections you may not have found on your own. The opportunity to work with others on things that matter to you matters to us.Be kind, be mindful.
We understand that not everyone is perfect, and things may happen from time to time, but harassment and abuse are not welcome in this space.
How can we help you?
- Get an idea off the ground!
Have an idea that you want to get started but are unsure where to start? Ibis is a meeting place for creatives of all shapes and talents looking to create things, be part of the conversation on our internal channels, form project teams, get access to our shared resources and find a place to publish in the one spot.
- Develop and build a skillset, create a portfolio.
As a production house, we have resources and connections as well as training materials and opportunities to hone a skillset that you have always wanted to create. We encourage trying things out, seeing if they work, failing and trying again and most importantly finding the skills you need to meet the passions you have.
- Publish your work.
Being part of our community creative group gives you a place to publish and promote your work from, and in turn contributes to the community creative pool. Part of our revenues will be given to our contributors so they can improve their art, work on new projects, or even partially support themselves as they build their skills and portfolio.
Our Structure
At Ibis, we aim to develop a service that is responsive to the community and remains under the control of its creators, rather than being run by distant managers or directors. This is why we chose a workers’ cooperative as our organisational structure.
A cooperative can be any group of people or businesses that work together, but for our purposes, it is a group of creatives, journalists, producers, and technologists working on a shared content platform to produce content for the community.
We will keep our system as simple as possible, with the membership having the ultimate say over who will manage our operations and how those operations will be managed.
A strategic plan and an operational plan will exist for the organisation, serving as the guiding principles behind its projects. If we want to change it, we can do so as a group through a ballot or consensus.
This may change over time as we expand, but fundamentally, it will be our members who determine how the cooperative operates.

Apply to Join the Cooperative!
If you want to join Ibis, you need to be a subscriber to the organisation, but beyond that, there are no fees. We do encourage people to make contributions where they can, even very small ones, to maintain their membership.
Submit a completed project for addition to our Library!
We accept submissions of completed work to our media library and our live channels from any creatives or groups. We will ask you to prove that you own the distributive rights before submission and will be part of the artists funding model based on views and airtime.

Our Discord server is the first stop for people wanting to get involved with the organisation, it is where new projects are discussed, friends are met and opportunities are mentioned.
There are some public channels, but broadly, this is a place for cooperative members to be part of the action.
